Sea Palling & Waxham Youth Council

Young Voices, Real Change, Making Waves

The Sea Palling & Waxham Youth Council was set up in April 2026 and brings together eight young people from our local community.

The Youth Council gives young people an opportunity to have their say about issues that matter to them, share ideas and get involved in making Sea Palling and Waxham an even better place to live.

The council meets to discuss local matters and to develop ideas that can make a real difference to young people and the wider community.

What have we been doing?

Since getting started, the Youth Council has already been discussing a range of ideas and issues.

🌱 A community sensory garden

One of the ideas discussed is a community sensory garden. The Youth Council is considering how a garden could provide an enjoyable and welcoming space for people in the community.

📱 Mobile and broadband connectivity

Poor mobile phone and broadband connectivity is an issue experienced by young people in the village. The Youth Council agreed to write to County Councillor Matthew Taylor to explain the problems they experience and to make sure young people’s views are heard.

The wider Parish Council has also been working on this issue, with a mobile and broadband connectivity survey receiving 98 responses by July 2026.

🎄 Community events

The Youth Council were involved in the Summer Solstice Community event and provided activities for children and young people.   Members are also getting ideas together to support the Community Christmas Carols event on Sumday 6th December, helping to make it an enjoyable occasion for the whole village.

🏡 Taking an interest in the village

The Youth Council is also looking at practical issues around the villages. At the July Parish Council meeting, a member of the Youth Council agreed to inspect the village and report any damaged street signs.

Meeting with our local MP

The Youth Council arranged to meet with MP Steff Aquarone on 29 July 2026 in the village park. This gave members an opportunity to talk directly with their local Member of Parliament and make sure young people’s views are represented.

Young people making a difference

The Youth Council is still new, but its members are already getting involved in local issues and bringing forward ideas for the future.

It is an important opportunity for young people in Sea Palling and Waxham to have their voices heard, contribute to their community and help shape what happens locally.

If you are a young person in our community, the Youth Council is your opportunity to have your say and get involved.
